Glasgow
Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Monday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 22 families, and now we feed 187 each week. Donations have dropped by about 57% this winter, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 18 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Glasgow market and keep every receipt. Each $35 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $3,450 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,750 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,250 • Baby formula and diapers: $260 • Refrigeration and electricity: $190 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself. - Scarlett

  • sending good thoughts, Scarlett. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust

Hope things get better soon, Scarlett. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. After 22 years in nursing I know how hard it is to ask for anything. Thinking of Glasgow.

      • Thanks for sharing this, Scarlett. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Thinking of Glasgow
