In August I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee. My surgeon at Belfast Regional Medical Center recommended cataract surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $3,300, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $2,650 short. Doctors at Belfast Regional Medical Center told me osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without cataract surgery. I work as a restaurant cook, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $3,300 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a restaurant cook have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 5 weeks. I'll not be able to stand for more than ten minutes during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $2,650 goes: • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $280 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $2,200 • Travel and lodging for the family: $170 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Raymond

good luck. Shared this with my family. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. All the best.
