Mark is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a degree in civil engineering at Cebu City University, and is two terms away from graduating. He has worked as a night-shift cleaner to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $350. The registrar has said Mark can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Mark has a 3.9 average, and an academic advisor has written in support. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Mark would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
