Help Mai patch the roof before the monsoon

The roof at Mai's home is failing; materials are donated and we need hands.

I'm a night-shift nurse living in Fukuoka. During the last storm water started coming through the ceiling in 3 places, and the kids' bedroom is no longer usable. A roofer quoted $3,000, which isn't something I can pay. The good news: a local hardware store has donated the corrugated iron sheets and timber. What I don't have is people to do the work. I'm looking for 4-6 people who can help over one long weekend. Experience helps, but it isn't essential - I'll have a licensed roofer supervising for safety. All you need is work boots and a hat. I'll provide lunch, water and lots of thanks. The work will be done on the ground and roof with proper harnesses. If you can only help for a few hours, that's welcome too. Thanks for being kind about this.

  • Best of luck. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Thinking of Fukuoka.

Thanks for sharing this, Mai. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. It's not much but it's yours.

      • Thinking of you and your family, Mai. Shared this with my family.

        • Your post was clear and honest. Thinking of Fukuoka.

          • It takes guts to ask. Well done. We're a small family in Bellevue but we're thinking of you. All the best.

            • You're not alone, Mai. I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better.

              • Take care. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Take care.
