Denise was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst in August. The surgeon at San Jose Community Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for December. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $3,550, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $2,500 short. my wife has been in and out of San Jose Community Hospital since August. The doctors say a large ovarian cyst will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $3,550 is more than we can find. While we wait, Denise struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Denise won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $2,500 goes: • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $500 • Hospital stay (2 nights): $1,500 • Post-operative medication: $280 • Travel and lodging for the family: $220 Thanks for reading all this. - Logan

Updates from Logan

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($549 in total) we've started the first stage. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  2. Small update. $962 so far, the plan for travel and lodging for the family is now scheduled.

  • Sending love, Logan. Hope the doctors have good news. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust

    • take care, Logan. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. All the best.

      • Gave what I could, wish it was more. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Thinking of San Jose.

        • Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. I went through something like this 3 years ago and strangers helped me out.
