Caroline was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in June. The surgeon at Mukono Regional Medical Center recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,200, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $950 short.
my mother has been in and out of Mukono Regional Medical Center since June. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,200 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Caroline struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Caroline won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
