A mentor for applications, essays and scholarships for a motivated first-generation student.

I'm Sofia, 17, in Form 6. My parents work long hours and didn't go to university, so there's no one at home who can help me understand applications, deadlines or financial aid. I'd like to study psychology.
I have a distinction average, I volunteer at an after-school program and I have a draft of my personal statement. What I need is someone to read my essays, tell me honestly what's weak, and explain how scholarships work.
I'm looking for an hour a week until November. We can do it by video from anywhere. My mother will be at home during every call, and the school counselor knows about this request.
Thanks for reading. It took me a long time to ask.
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.
- effort
- 1 hour a week
- format
- Online or by phone
- skills
- university experience, essay feedback

Thinking of you and your family, Sofia. Your post was clear and honest.
Hang in there. As a teacher I love seeing someone work this hard to learn. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. God bless
Rooting for you. It takes guts to ask. Well done. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Love from Cartagena.
Sending strength. Gave what I could, wish it was more. We're a small family in Dwarka but we're thinking of you. All the best
Keep going, Sofia. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My husband and I read this together. Thinking of Piraeus.
