I'm Shirley, 19, in my final year of high school. My parents work long hours and didn't go to university, so there's no one at home who can help me understand applications, deadlines or financial aid. I'd like to study economics. I have a 3.7 average, I volunteer at an after-school program and I have a draft of my personal statement. What I need is someone to read my essays, tell me honestly what's weak, and explain how scholarships work. I'm looking for an hour a week until November. We can do it by video from anywhere. My mother will be at home during every call, and the school counselor knows about this request. Thanks for reading. It took me a long time to ask. I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

  • so sorry you're going through this, Shirley. As a teacher I love seeing someone work this hard to learn. Take care!

    • hang in there, Shirley. Your post was clear and honest. Love from Nagpur.

      • Thinking of you. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. God bless

        • Hope things get better soon. This could happen to any of us. Sent it to 13 people at work. God bless.

          • Rooting for you, Shirley. Gave what I could, wish it was more.
