I'm Julia, 19, in Year 12. My parents work long hours and didn't go to university, so there's no one at home who can help me understand applications, deadlines or financial aid. I'd like to study civil engineering. I have a 3.9 average, I volunteer at a food pantry and I have a draft of my personal statement. What I need is someone to read my essays, tell me honestly what's weak, and explain how scholarships work. I'm looking for an hour a week until November. We can do it by video from anywhere. My mother will be at home during every call, and the school counselor knows about this request. Thanks for reading. It took me a long time to ask. Thank you for reading my story.

  • So sorry you're going through this, Julia. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Take care.

    • rooting for you, Julia. Study hard!

      • Good luck. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected

        • Keep going. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Sent it to 12 people at work.
