Friendly visitor needed for a 73-year-old neighbor in Kano

An hour a week, a chat, and a cup of tea - that's all Yetunde is asking for.

I'm writing for my neighbor Yetunde, who's 73. Yetunde lives alone in Kano, and lost a spouse of many years last year. The nearest family lives on the other side of the country. Yetunde loves baking, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Saturday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

  • Take care, Uchenna. I hope things turn around soon. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.

    • Keep going, Uchenna. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Take care

      • Best of luck. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Thinking of Kano.
