The fire in the settlement hit Orchard village on 26 April. My home was one of 32 damaged, and 5 families are still in temporary shelter at the sports club. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates. Where the $1,500 goes: • Roofing sheets and timber: $800 • Clean water and purification supplies: $90 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $95 • Food parcels for displaced families: $230 • Tools and labor for repairs: $285 Glad we found this place. - Namukasa

  • is there anything that isn't money that would help Namukasa?

    • Thank you. If you're in Likoni I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Appreciate you taking the time.

  • Rooting for you, Namukasa. This could happen to any of us. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected

    • hope it all works out, Namukasa. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Don't give up. God bless.

good luck. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
