The fire in the market hit the Northside settlement on 7 August. My home was one of 83 damaged, and 11 families are still in temporary shelter at the local school gym. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates. Where the $600 goes: • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $155 • Food parcels for displaced families: $145 • Tools and labor for repairs: $300 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Updates from Achieng

  1. Thank you all. We're at 73% now ($437). I'm honestly stunned. the plan for bedding, blankets and mattresses is now scheduled.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($350 in total) I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Thank you all. We're at 17% now ($100). I'm honestly stunned. the plan for food parcels for displaced families is now scheduled.
