In August I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My oncology team at Tokyo Regional Medical Center has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in December. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 36, I worked as a cleaner at a hospital until August, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Tokyo Regional Medical Center 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $8,800 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $5,000 • Scans and lab work: $1,250 • Transport to Tokyo Regional Medical Center: $630 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $370 • Household costs while unable to work: $1,550 Please ask me anything in the questions section.
