Birmingham
Audrey was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in April. The oncology team at Birmingham Cancer Centre has planned 6 rounds of treatment, starting in July. She will be away from work for about 8 weeks. Audrey is 38, worked as a taxi driver until April, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Birmingham Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $10,750 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $7,500 • Scans and lab work: $710 • Transport to Birmingham Cancer Centre: $720 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $480 • Household costs while unable to work: $1,340 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Sending strength. Get well soon. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it

    • What's already covered and what's the $10,750 for?

      • Owen W. GainesOwnerAnswer

Sure. The biggest one is chemotherapy and medication not covered, $7,500. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. It helps to be asked.

    • Sending good thoughts, Owen. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We're a small family in San Francisco but we're thinking of you.
