The Community Pantry pantry in Birmingham is running low just as demand rises; $1,800 will stock it for 10 weeks.

Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Community Pantry every Saturday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 9 families, and now we feed 71 each week. Donations have dropped by about 37% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 10 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Birmingham market and keep every receipt. Each $50 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $1,800 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $800 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $850 • Baby formula and diapers: $150 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to. - Clara

  • Rooting for you. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Thinking of Birmingham

    • Praying for you. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. I have a 8 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Take care

        • take care. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We're a small family in Mumbai but we're thinking of you. God bless

          • Stay strong. Gave what I could, wish it was more. I'm in engineering myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Love from Beersheba.
