Ballarat
Since 2019, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Tuesday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 21 families, and now we feed 381 each week. Donations have dropped by about 49% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 13 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Ballarat market and keep every receipt. Each $50 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $3,700 goes: • Refrigeration and electricity: $280 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $2,350 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,070 Glad we found this place.

  • Sending strength, Aditi. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I went through something like this 6 years ago and strangers helped me out.

    • Keep going, Aditi. Hope you get there. My husband and I read this together.

      • Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I hope October is when things finally get easier. Thinking of Ballarat
