Since 2020, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Thursday from the back of a community center. We started with 30 families, and now we feed 133 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 36% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 18 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Fresno market and keep every receipt.
Each $25 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $3,050 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,500
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,150
• Baby formula and diapers: $240
• Refrigeration and electricity: $160
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
