Emergency hernia repair for Nida: covering what insurance won't
After a large ovarian cyst, Nida was cleared for emergency hernia repair, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Nida was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst in August. The surgeon at Saint Catherine Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,200, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $600 short.
my daughter has been in and out of Saint Catherine Hospital since August. The doctors say a large ovarian cyst will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,200 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Nida struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Nida won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $600 goes:

• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $350
• Hospital stay (2 nights): $210
