Ellie's school year: uniform, books and a laptop

Ellie won a place at London International School but the family can't afford the uniform, books and laptop required.

I earned a place in Grade 9 at London International School, and I couldn't be prouder. The school has a long list of things I need, including a laptop for the chemistry course, and a uniform. My mother works two jobs, and the list costs $800, which is more than we have. I love chemistry and want to become a teacher. A laptop will let me do coursework at home instead of waiting for library hours. I'll take care of everything you give me and I promise to work hard. I'll buy the items from the school's approved supplier and post photos of everything. Where the $800 goes: • Calculator, stationery and a school bag: $70 • Textbooks and workbooks: $190 • Laptop: $540 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it. - Ellie

Keep going, Ellie. Hope this works out for you. After 26 years in teaching I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Soweto.
