The earthquake hit the Northside neighborhood on 5 February. My home was one of 19 damaged, and 13 families are still in temporary shelter at a mosque and church hall. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $2,800 goes: • Clean water and purification supplies: $350 • Tools and labor for repairs: $450 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $710 • Food parcels for displaced families: $1,290 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

  • I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My mother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Take care

    • good luck. Your post was clear and honest. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like

      • Wishing you peace. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Take care
