I coordinate donations at Unity Women's Shelter in Los Angeles. Every year around this time we hear from families who have nothing warm for their children, and this year demand has more than doubled. We're collecting clean, gently used or new coats, boots, hats, gloves and scarves in sizes 4-12. If you're in Los Angeles, we can arrange a pick-up or you can drop things at Unity Women's Shelter on Thursday between 9am and 2pm. If you're elsewhere, you may offer to sponsor a coat through a local shop - message in the comments and we can coordinate. Items go to families directly and the rest to the Unity Women's Shelter clothing bank, which is open to everyone. Glad we found this place.

This is what community support looks like. They didn't just offer generic advice; they provided personalized help tailored to my specific situation.

        • Wishing you peace. Your post was clear and honest. Put this on a community board in Osaka this morning.

          • So sorry you're going through this, Isla. I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better. I'm in public service myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you.
