The heating account is 2 months behind. Adriana received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on November unless $1,000 is paid. She had never been late before August's medical emergency. Adriana called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $65 first, which isn't available. The household includes two young children, and going through the cold months without heating isn't safe. Without it we can't refrigerate insulin and food, or keep the house at a safe temperature. Adriana is working on getting back on her feet, and wants to pay it forward once steady. The money will go directly to the utility provider, and I'll post the paid statement here. Where the $1,000 goes: • Utility arrears: $630 • Reconnection and late fees: $165 • Down payment on a payment plan: $205 Glad we found this place. - Ramón

  • Keep going. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Blessings

    • Best of luck, Ramón. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 24 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Thinking of Laredo.
