Dignity in old age: caring for Lwazi
Lwazi, 77, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $800 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 77. After worsening Parkinson's disease Lwazi can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Lwazi desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Lwazi worked all of her life as a carpenter, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for four months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $800 goes:
• Part-time carer (four months): $430
• Medication and prescriptions: $220
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $80
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $70

You're not alone. Hope the doctors have good news. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.
