Clean water and shade for Leeds: restoring the Pioneer riverbank
Volunteers are restoring the Pioneer riverbank in Leeds; $1,450 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
Anywhere in the world2,003 views
The Pioneer riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 120 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 47 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,450 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $110
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,000
• Waste removal and skip hire: $340
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

wishing you peace, Ruth. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did
Stay strong. Great idea, hope you get there. I went through something like this 14 years ago and strangers helped me out.
Thinking of you, Ruth. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes.
