Clean streets and rivers for San Diego: restoring the Union canal
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Union canal needs $1,950 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 United States1,789 views
The Union canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This March, 45 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 135 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,950 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $720
• Waste removal and skip hire: $1,000
• Tools and protective gear: $230
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Sending love, Ankit. Shared this with my family. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it
Wishing you peace, Ankit. I hope things turn around soon. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. God bless.
wishing you peace, Ankit. More neighborhoods should do this. We're a small family in Ahmedabad but we're thinking of you. Thinking of San Diego.
