Clean air and water for Winston-Salem: restoring the Cedar wetland
Volunteers are restoring the Cedar wetland in Winston-Salem; $2,250 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
Anywhere in the world1,430 views
The Cedar wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 86 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 155 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,250 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $740
• Tools and protective gear: $540
• Waste removal and skip hire: $780
• Signage and educational materials: $190
Every share and every dollar helps.

Thank you. If you're in Winston-Salem I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. I'll keep the page updated.
Sending good thoughts, Aaron. This could happen to any of us. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. All the best.

best of luck, Aaron. Great idea, hope you get there. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too
Keep going, Aaron. More neighborhoods should do this. My neighbor in Dhaka donated after I showed her your page. Love from Dhaka.
