Clean air and water for Calamba: restoring the Baobab riverbank
Volunteers are restoring the Baobab riverbank in Calamba; $200 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
Anywhere in the world1,168 views
The Baobab riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 55 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 144 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $200 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $75
• Signage and educational materials: $55
• Tools and protective gear: $70
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

more neighborhoods should do this. Thinking of Calamba.
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Emmanuel!
More neighborhoods should do this. I have a 13 year old who wants to send good wishes too.
Best of luck, Emmanuel. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Greetings from London.
