Carpenters wanted: an entrance ramp for Sophie

Materials are donated. We need two carpenters and a helper for a weekend in Dallas.

Sophie has used a wheelchair since 2022, and the house has three steps at the front door and no ramp. At the moment Sophie can only go outside when two neighbors are available to lift the chair. The materials (treated timber, screws and non-slip surface) have been donated by a local lumberyard. We need a carpenter or two to measure, cut and build, plus a helper or two. The ramp has to meet the accessibility guideline for gradient, which is why a person with building experience is important. We estimate twelve hours of work. Tools are welcome - saws, drills, spirit levels. We'll provide refreshments, and Sophie's family will cook lunch for the team. I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Thinking of you and your family. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Greetings from Leicester.

    • I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. My neighbor in Brooklyn donated after I showed her your page. God bless.

      • You're not alone, Raymond. Gave what I could, wish it was more. All the best!

        • Shared it with a few friends. My husband and I read this together. Thinking of Dallas.
