Carpenters wanted: an entrance ramp for Mthunzi

Mthunzi uses a wheelchair and can't leave the house because of three steps at the door; we need a few hours of carpentry.

Mthunzi has used a wheelchair since 2025, and the house has three steps at the front door and no ramp. At the moment Mthunzi can only go outside when two neighbors are available to lift the chair. The materials (treated timber, screws and non-slip surface) have been donated by a local lumberyard. We need a carpenter or two to measure, cut and build, plus a helper or two. The ramp has to meet the accessibility guideline for gradient, which is why a person with building experience is important. We estimate six hours of work. Tools are welcome - saws, drills, spirit levels. We'll provide refreshments, and Mthunzi's family will cook lunch for the team. I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

  • I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My cousin had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. All the best.

    • So sorry you're going through this, Ayanda. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. All the best.

      • Hope it all works out. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. Don't give up

        • Wishing you the best. I hope things turn around soon. Love from Madrid.
