I'm caring for my father, who's 74. After a diagnosis of dementia Anthony can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Anthony desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Anthony worked all of his life as a factory worker, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $5,000 goes:
• Part-time carer (eight months): $3,450
• Medication and prescriptions: $750
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $300
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $500
