Build a wheelchair ramp for Mpho in Richards Bay

Mpho uses a wheelchair and can't leave the house because of three steps at the door; we need a few hours of carpentry.

Mpho has used a wheelchair since 2024, and the house has three steps at the front door and no ramp. At the moment Mpho can only go outside when two neighbors are available to lift the chair. The materials (treated timber, screws and non-slip surface) have been donated by a local lumberyard. We need a carpenter or two to measure, cut and build, plus a helper or two. The ramp has to meet the accessibility guideline for gradient, which is why a person with building experience is important. We estimate ten hours of work. Tools are welcome - saws, drills, spirit levels. We'll provide refreshments, and Mpho's family will cook lunch for the team. Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

  • Hope you get there. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Thinking of Richards Bay.

    • Best of luck. Hope the doctors have good news. My father had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Greetings from Nashik.

      • Thanks for sharing this, Suren. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Sent it to 7 people at work. Greetings from Savar
