When the textile factory closed in December, I fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Thursday a notice to vacate was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $550. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by April, we must leave. I have a teenager still in school at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working weekend shifts, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $550 goes: • Rent arrears (4 months): $380 • Late fees and court costs: $35 • Utilities in arrears: $25 • First month of rent as a buffer: $110 Thanks for reading all this. - Babu

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Babu

    • Babu Dipu SiddiqueOwnerAnswer

It's all in the list in the story. rent arrears (4 months) is the big one at $380, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. It helps to be asked.
