ACL reconstruction for Soo-jin: covering what insurance won't
After a torn ligament that needs reconstruction, Soo-jin was cleared for ACL reconstruction, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In July I was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction. My surgeon at Incheon Community Hospital recommended ACL reconstruction, and I have been placed on the schedule for September. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $7,250, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $4,300 short.
Doctors at Incheon Community Hospital told me a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without ACL reconstruction. I work as a seamstress, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $7,250 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a seamstress have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 12 weeks. I'll not be able to stand for more than ten minutes during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $4,300 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,400
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $890
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $190
• Post-operative medication: $220
• Physiotherapy sessions: $470
• Travel and lodging for the family: $130
With deep gratitude,
Soo-jin

best of luck, Soo-jin. This could happen to any of us. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
Wishing you peace. I hope things turn around soon. I'm in farming myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. All the best.
Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Love from Entebbe
thinking of you and your family. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. All the best.
