I'm caring for my mother, who's 84. After a heart attack Abril can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Abril desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 30 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Abril worked all of her life as a nurse, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for four months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $3,400 goes:
• Part-time carer (four months): $2,250
• Medication and prescriptions: $380
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $190
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $580
