A youth football pitch: a volunteer-led effort in Cairo
A community-led a youth football pitch at Union Park that will serve 477 neighbors.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a youth football pitch. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Union Park, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $600.
It will serve about 477 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $600 goes:
• Materials: $450
• Permits and inspections: $55
• Safety equipment and signage: $35
• Tools hire and delivery: $60
Thank you so much.
