A weekly visit for Soledad, 74, who lives alone in Barranquilla

Soledad lives alone and has no family nearby; a weekly hour of conversation would transform the week.

I'm writing for my neighbor Soledad, who's 74. Soledad lives alone in Barranquilla, and lost a spouse of many years last year. The nearest family lives 210 kilometers away. Soledad loves opera, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Thursday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. Thank you for reading my story.

  • Get well soon. It's not much but it's yours. All the best

    • Wishing Soledad a smooth procedure and a full recovery. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend.

      • Thinking of you and your family. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I hope October is when things finally get easier. Greetings from Jaffna

        • Hope you get there. After 6 years in accounting I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

          • look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. I hope October is when things finally get easier. All the best

            • Good luck, Josefa. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. All the best.
