A weekly visit for Silvia, 74, who lives alone in Envigado

An hour a week, a chat, and a cup of tea - that is all Silvia is asking for.

I'm writing for my neighbor Silvia, who's 74. Silvia lives alone in Envigado, and lost a spouse of many years last year. The nearest family lives several hours away. Silvia loves baking, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Thursday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. Glad we found this place.

  • Wishing you the best. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. All the best.

    • Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Take care

      • Thanks for sharing this. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side.

        • Keep going, Andrés. Hope this works out for you. Love from Mohammedia.

          • take care, Andrés. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I went through something like this 9 years ago and strangers helped me out
