A weekly visit for Jamal, 76, who lives alone in Cairo
Jamal lives alone and has no family nearby; a weekly hour of conversation would transform the week.

I'm writing for my neighbor Jamal, who's 76. Jamal lives alone in Cairo, and lost a spouse of many years last year. The nearest family lives several hours away.
Jamal loves old films, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Tuesday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person.
All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity.
No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience.
Thank you for reading my story.

Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. I went through something like this 10 years ago and strangers helped me out. Take care.
So sorry you're going through this, Ibrahim. Get well soon. Wish I lived closer to Howrah so I could bring a meal.
Good luck. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I'm in engineering myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. All the best
Thinking of you and your family. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. Wish I lived closer to Ikeja so I could bring a meal.
Gave what I could, wish it was more. Sent it to 21 people at work. All the best
