A weekly visit for Álvaro, 75, who lives alone in Lafayette

An hour a week, a chat, and a cup of tea - that's all Álvaro is asking for.

I'm writing for my neighbor Álvaro, who's 75. Álvaro lives alone in Lafayette, and lost a lifelong friend last year. The nearest family lives 376 kilometers away. Álvaro loves chess, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Wednesday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. I hope life is good to you.

  • Hope you get there. We're a small family in Ciudad de México but we're thinking of you. All the best

    • praying for you, Mercedes. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry!

      • Best of luck. Shared this with my family. Please keep us posted. God bless.

        • Rooting for you, Mercedes. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. My husband and I read this together.

          • You're not alone, Mercedes. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
