A weekly visit for Abril, 74, who lives alone in Madrid

Abril lives alone and has no family nearby; a weekly hour of conversation would transform the week.

I'm writing for my neighbor Abril, who's 74. Abril lives alone in Madrid, and lost a son last year. The nearest family lives on the other side of the country. Abril loves crossword puzzles, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Monday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Rooting for you, Gabriela. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We're a small family in Kingston but we're thinking of you. Greetings from Kingston.

      • rooting for you. Get well soon. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Love from Hialeah.

gave what I could, wish it was more. After 22 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything!

            • Good luck, Gabriela. Hope this works out for you. My sister had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Blessings.
