A weekly ride to the Sydney Dialysis Unit for Elijah

A rota of drivers to the Sydney Dialysis Unit would keep Elijah on treatment. Even one trip a week helps.

Elijah has been on dialysis for 4 years and until recently drove to the Sydney Dialysis Unit alone. After surgery on their hand, Elijah can no longer drive. Taxis cost more than the family can pay three times a week. We're building a rota of volunteer drivers. Each session is 3 hours, including the trip there and back; most volunteers take one regular day. The journey is about 27 km each way. Elijah is cheerful company. You'd need a car in good condition and a clean driving record. We'll cover your fuel costs, and the family will send you home with homemade food. Please say which day works for you in the comments. Thanks for being kind about this.

I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Thinking of Sydney.

      • good luck. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. I'm in hospitality myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Thinking of Sydney.
