A weekly ride to the Stockholm Dialysis Unit for Håkan

A rota of drivers to the Stockholm Dialysis Unit would keep Håkan on treatment. Even one trip a week helps.

Håkan has been on dialysis for 2 years and until recently drove to the Stockholm Dialysis Unit alone. After a foot amputation, Håkan can no longer drive. Taxis cost more than the family can pay three times a week. We're building a rota of volunteer drivers. Each session is 4 hours, including the trip there and back; most volunteers take one regular day. The journey is about 28 km each way. Håkan is cheerful company. You'd need a car in good condition and a clean driving record. We'll cover your fuel costs, and the family will send you home with homemade food. Please say which day works for you in the comments. I hope life is good to you.

wishing you the best. Wishing Håkan a smooth procedure and a full recovery. I have a 8 year old who wants to send good wishes too. All the best.

    • Thanks for sharing this. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I went through something like this 6 years ago and strangers helped me out. Thinking of Stockholm.

      • Sending strength, Fredrik. Hope this works out for you. We're a small family in Manchester but we're thinking of you. God bless.
