A weekly ride to the Berlin Dialysis Unit for Lena

A rota of drivers to the Berlin Dialysis Unit would keep Lena on treatment. Even one trip a week helps.

Lena has been on dialysis for 1 years and until recently drove to the Berlin Dialysis Unit alone. After a minor stroke, Lena can no longer drive. Taxis cost more than the family can pay three times a week. We're building a rota of volunteer drivers. Each session is 4 hours, including the trip there and back; most volunteers take one regular day. The journey is about 32 km each way. Lena is cheerful company. You'd need a car in good condition and a clean driving record. We'll cover your fuel costs, and the family will send you home with homemade food. Please say which day works for you in the comments. I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Keep going, Walter. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Don't give up.

      • Hope it all works out. Wishing Lena a smooth procedure and a full recovery. My father had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Greetings from Bergamo.

        • take care, Walter. Gave what I could, wish it was more.

          • Hang in there. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My husband and I read this together!
