A weekly ride to San Francisco Regional Medical Center for Sophia

A rota of drivers to San Francisco Regional Medical Center would keep Sophia on treatment. Even one trip a week helps.

Sophia has been on dialysis for 1 years and until recently drove to San Francisco Regional Medical Center alone. After a foot amputation, Sophia can no longer drive. Taxis cost more than the family can pay three times a week. We're building a rota of volunteer drivers. Each session is 3 hours, including the trip there and back; most volunteers take one regular day. The journey is about 30 km each way. Sophia is cheerful company. You'd need a car in good condition and a clean driving record. We'll cover your fuel costs, and the family will send you home with homemade food. Please say which day works for you in the comments. I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

  • I hope things turn around soon. Love from Recife.

    • You're not alone. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Take care.

      • Thanks for sharing this, Julian. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. God bless.

        • Praying for you, Julian. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Love from Kelowna.

          • Hope it all works out. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Blessings.
