A weekly ride to Belém General Hospital for Gabriela

A rota of drivers to Belém General Hospital would keep Gabriela on treatment. Even one trip a week helps.

Gabriela has been on dialysis for 5 years and until recently drove to Belém General Hospital alone. After a minor stroke, Gabriela can no longer drive. Taxis cost more than the family can pay three times a week. We're building a rota of volunteer drivers. Each session is 4 hours, including the trip there and back; most volunteers take one regular day. The journey is about 30 km each way. Gabriela is cheerful company. You'd need a car in good condition and a clean driving record. We'll cover your fuel costs, and the family will send you home with homemade food. Please say which day works for you in the comments. I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Sending strength, Rafaela. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. I'll check back for the next update. Blessings.

    • You're not alone. Hope this works out for you. After 20 years in accounting I know how hard it is to ask for anything. All the best.

      • Shared this with my family. Put this on a community board in Guarulhos this morning.

        • Hang in there, Rafaela. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I have a 8 year old who wants to send good wishes too.
