A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Semarang

Volunteers in Semarang are raising $400 for a solar-powered water pump at the old Cedar bus depot.

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 10 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Cedar bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $400. It will serve about 256 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $400 goes: • Materials: $310 • Permits and inspections: $30 • Safety equipment and signage: $35 • Tools hire and delivery: $25 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Wulan

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Wulan.

    • Wulan Okta SitompulOwnerAnswer

Sure. The biggest one is materials, $310. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Happy to explain more.
