A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Pretoria
Volunteers in Pretoria are raising $750 for a solar-powered water pump at Cedar Park.
🇿🇦 South Africa563 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Cedar Park, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $180, and the remaining cost is $750.
It will serve about 162 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $750 goes:
• Materials: $430
• Permits and inspections: $35
• Safety equipment and signage: $110
• Tools hire and delivery: $175
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.
