A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in New York
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at the old Acacia bus depot that will serve 149 neighbors.
🇺🇸 United States920 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Acacia bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $4,500.
It will serve about 149 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $4,500 goes:
• Materials: $3,600
• Permits and inspections: $400
• Safety equipment and signage: $300
• Tools hire and delivery: $200
Thank you so much.

Sending strength. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too
Best of luck. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Greetings from Rio de Janeiro
