A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Gazipur

Volunteers in Gazipur are raising $400 for a solar-powered water pump at the Liberty vacant lot.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $400. It will serve about 505 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $400 goes: • Safety equipment and signage: $50 • Tools hire and delivery: $70 • Materials: $280 If you're reading this, thank you. - Omar
