Bahir Dar
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 17 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $400. It will serve about 535 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $400 goes: • Materials: $270 • Permits and inspections: $35 • Safety equipment and signage: $40 • Tools hire and delivery: $55 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
